By building partnerships and collaborating with others in our local area, Léman is a leader within the Lower Manhattan community. Through our service work, we inspire our community and uphold being open-minded, caring citizens who respect the perspectives of others.
Throughout the year, Léman students embrace a philosophy of giving. Each month, our students engage in meaningful service work in support of a specific organization. Together, students and teachers participate in discussions about partnerships, sustainability and the mission of the charity. Our students have opportunities to act, whether by creating doggie pillows for Social Tees Animal Rescue, swimming laps to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis, or packing meals with Rise Against Hunger.
Upper School students participate in service learning through clubs and associations such as The Red Cross Club, The Volunteer Club, National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. IB Diploma students broaden their educational experience through community service work as part of their Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) requirement, which includes an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. To complete CAS successfully, students must complete a CAS project and demonstrate achievement of the program's eight learning outcomes.
The Léman Community Service Committee, comprised of faculty, students, and parents, regularly brings our community together as one school to make a difference in the lives of others. Supporting those in need both locally and globally, the Community Service Committee is dedicated to spearheading school-wide charitable activities, educating others about the importance of service, and activating students, staff and families to participate in ongoing initiatives.
Each year, Léman is proud to support many different organizations with important missions, such as:
The American Red Cross
City Harvest
JDRF
NY Cares
Project Cicero
Rise Against Hunger
Room To Grow
Social Tees
Soles for Souls
Swim for MS
Walk For Water
